How to use this

  • What it builds

Thirty dots is a good next step after the shorter dot to dot sheets. The numbers go past twenty, where the order has to be read and not guessed: 21 comes after 20, and 30 is the last. The maple leaf has straight edges and sharp points, and every dot sits on a corner, so a wrong turn shows at once as a shape that does not look like a leaf, and the child gets feedback without a grown-up pointing it out. It is a fall picture a child can then colour red, orange or yellow.

  • Ready when

A child who can count to 30 aloud and has done the dot to dot 1 to 10 or 1 to 20 sheets, usually around five or six.

  • How to run it

Print one copy. Count together from 1 to 30 once, pointing at the labels. Then let the child work alone, placing the pencil on each dot before saying its number. If a line goes to the wrong dot, keep going and talk about where it changed. Colour the leaf afterwards. Five to ten minutes is typical. Both UK (A4) and US (Letter) paper sizes print from the same download.
