Free to print and use at home or in the classroom, as many times as you like.

How to use this

  • What it builds

Spot the difference trains visual comparison: a child has to hold one picture in mind and check the other against it, shape by shape. Each picture is built from circles, squares, triangles, diamonds and stars, so the child is also naming shapes and colours as they search. The four changes cover the four kinds of difference a child meets: a colour change, a shape that has gone missing, a new shape, and a shape that is bigger or smaller.

  • Ready when

A child who can name circles, squares and triangles and can look at a picture for a few seconds is ready.

  • How to run it

Print one copy. Let the child look at Picture A for a moment, then point to each shape in Picture B and ask whether it matches. Each difference they find can be circled. If they are stuck, ask about one shape at a time, starting from the top left. Five to ten minutes covers the whole page. Both UK (A4) and US (Letter) paper sizes print from the same download.
