  This is the next rung up the Dolch list after pre-primer — words like 'are' and 'black' that are still common enough to need instant recognition, but slightly longer and less phonetically obvious than the very first set. Two of the words here ('at', 'am') are themselves the rime family this library's CVC word sheets build words around, which is a deliberate small link: a word memorized whole here shows up decodable, piece by piece, on the phonics side of the same library. Keeping the same trace-then-write structure across both sight-word levels means a child already knows exactly how to use the page before reading a single word on it.

• ② Ready when

  Best for a child who already recognizes and can write most of the pre-primer sight-words sheet's eight words without heavy prompting. This level assumes slightly more letter-formation stamina, since several words here run a letter or two longer.

• ③ How to run it

  Print one copy. Same routine as the pre-primer sheet: say the word, trace it, then write it twice while saying it out loud each time. Five to ten minutes covers the page. If several words are still a struggle, it's fine to split this across two short sessions rather than pushing through all eight in one sitting — sight-word memorization benefits more from short, repeated exposure than one long drill.
