How to use this

  • What it builds

Knowing that 'A' and 'a' are the same letter in two different clothes is a specific piece of knowledge a child has to be taught, not something they work out on their own from tracing capitals and lowercase in separate books. This pack puts both forms of every letter on the same page, side by side, so the pairing is explicit rather than left as an assumption. It's the natural third step after the separate capital and lowercase books — those build the individual motor skill for each case, and this one builds the case-matching knowledge that reading actually depends on, since printed text mixes both forms constantly and a child has to recognize them as equivalent to read fluently. It also works as a diagnostic on its own: a child who traces both forms confidently but hesitates on the 'same sound?' question has a case-matching gap specifically, distinct from a motor-control gap that separate capital or lowercase practice would reveal instead.

  • Ready when

Comfortable tracing both capitals and lowercase separately already. This pack asks for more — holding two related shapes in mind on one page — so it suits a child finishing up the individual case books, not one just starting out on letter tracing. If either the capital or lowercase book still feels shaky letter by letter, it's worth finishing that one first — this pack works best once the individual forms need only a light refresher, not first-time practice.

  • How to run it

Print the pages you need, or the full pack. For each letter, trace the capital first, then the lowercase, then ask 'do these make the same sound?' before moving to the next letter — that question is what turns the page into a case-matching exercise rather than just two more tracing reps. Five to ten minutes covers several letters. Free for classroom use, and a natural pack to send home once a family has already worked through the separate capital and lowercase books, since it consolidates rather than repeats what those two already covered. Some families use this pack as a light refresher a few months after finishing the separate capital and lowercase books, just to confirm the case-pairing has stuck, rather than as the immediate next step for every child — both approaches are reasonable depending on how confident the child already seems with letter recognition day to day. A completed pack also works well as a simple end-of-term keepsake — 26 pages showing both forms of every letter side by side is a tidy summary of a full year of alphabet work.
