Count and Write Worksheet 1-10 for Kindergarten (Free Printable)

How to use this

• What it builds

Counting and writing are two different skills, and this sheet joins them. The child counts a group of farm pictures, one to ten, and then has to produce the numeral themselves instead of picking it from a choice. That second step shows whether a child has linked the spoken count to the written number, and it is the move from recognising a numeral to using it. The groups grow one at a time, so each row is a small step up, and a child can feel the quantity getting bigger as the row gets longer.

• Ready when

A child who can count aloud to ten, point to each picture once, and form numerals at least roughly. If writing numerals is still new, the number tracing sheets in this set are the step before, and the count and circle sheet is the step before that.

• How to run it

Print one copy. Do the first two rows together: touch each picture, say the count, then say the last number again as the answer. Let the child write the numeral in the box. Do not worry about reversed digits at this age; note them and move on. A few rows a day works as well as the whole page. Both UK (A4) and US (Letter) paper sizes print from the same download.
