How to use this

  • What it builds

Logic and number recognition: ruling numbers out by row, column and box. Starting with 4 by 4 grids lets a child learn the one-of-each rule with very few numbers before moving to 6 by 6.

  • Ready when

A child who recognises the numbers 1 to 4 (later 1 to 6) and can keep a simple rule in mind, usually from about 5 years old. No reading is needed.

  • How to run it

A grown-up sets the child's age once; the game starts at a suitable level. Ask: which numbers does this row still need? Does the box already have one? Hints are free. Afterwards ask where they got stuck and what got them going again.
