Oveny — the bakery's oven

The bakery's oven · he/him

Oveny

Awake for about four words at a time.

Oveny is a great round brick-and-cream oven built into the bakery wall, and he is asleep for most of any given day. Startle him and he sneezes — flour, or sometimes rainbow smoke, across the entire kitchen. His advice is excellent and almost never longer than five words, because he is usually asleep again by the sixth.

Loves
Warmth, and being fed something to bake
Always says
“(yawn) …I'm hungry.”

Oveny is a great round brick-and-cream oven built into the bakery wall — the largest character in the kitchen and the sleepiest. His eyelids sit half-closed most of the day, and his mouth glows warm orange when something good is baking inside.

Startle him and he sneezes. Flour puffs everywhere, or sometimes rainbow smoke, across the entire kitchen. It is never mean — it is Oveny being Oveny. His catchphrase arrives mid-yawn: "…I'm hungry." He wants warmth, and he wants to be fed something to bake. ZZZZ is a full sentence for him on quiet days.

His advice is excellent and almost never longer than five words, because he is usually asleep again by the sixth. Tick-Tock may shout alerts; Mixy may spin. Oveny rumbles something short and true — "Achoo!" counts as punctuation — then snores. The bakery would not work without him, even when he is mostly snoring through the chaos. His surprised sneeze face is as familiar as his happy glow. Snore, glow, achoo — that is a full day for Oveny.

In the bakery

Oveny is the wall the kitchen is built around — literally and figuratively. Mixy passes batter his way; Grandpa knows how long things need; Mia listens when Oveny manages a full sentence before yawning. Cookie Dragon naps beside him when the bricks are warm. Oveny does not run around or give speeches. He bakes, sneezes, sleeps, and glows — and that is enough. Tick-Tock wakes him for cookie alerts; the crew accepts that wake-ups are loud and naps return quickly. Warmth and a full belly are his two great loves, in that order.

For grown-ups

Oveny models rest without laziness — he is essential even when half-asleep. Short advice lands well with young listeners; try Oveny-style hints at bedtime: five words, then quiet. His sneeze moments are safe slapstick — a good cue to laugh together when plans go puff instead of pop. He also normalizes needing food and rest before doing your best work. Half-asleep does not mean half-useful. Yawn, feed, bake — that is his whole philosophy, and it works.
