  This is the same same-or-different judgment as this library's farm-themed matching page, built with everyday household objects instead of animals — an apple, a book, a balloon, a star, a moon, a heart — so a child practices the comparison skill on the kind of things they actually see and name around the house every day, not only in a themed worksheet set. Offering a second theme for the exact same skill matters for a reason beyond variety: a child who has only ever done same-or-different with farm animals may have partly learned 'this is the farm-animal game' rather than the underlying comparison skill itself, and switching the subject checks whether the skill actually transferred. Eight pairs mix true matches with close-but-different pairs, the same balance as the farm version, so the level of challenge stays identical while only the subject matter changes.

• ② Ready when

  Any toddler who can point to a picture on request and knows a few of these six object names (apple, balloon, book, star, moon, heart) is ready — no counting or letters needed, just a direct side-by-side look. Works well either before or after the farm-themed version.

• ③ How to run it

  Print one page. Name both pictures in the first pair together before asking 'do these look exactly alike?', then let them work through the rest on their own. Three to five minutes covers the page. If they circle the wrong word, ask them to point out one specific difference or one way the pair matches before correcting it. Both UK (A4) and US (Letter) paper sizes print from the same download. A good change-of-scenery follow-up once the farm-themed same-or-different page feels easy, to confirm the skill itself has stuck rather than just the farm picture set.
