Made for ages 5 to 8 to hear read aloud at bedtime, or for a growing reader to try a chapter with a grown-up nearby. Each chapter takes about five to seven minutes to read aloud, with extra time for the pictures and a talk-together question at the end. Sharing, helping, inviting and welcoming others show up in what the characters do, not in a lecture. No cliffhangers overnight and no mean jokes at a child's expense. Twenty recipes have gone missing from Keyo's pages. Keyo is a floating recipe book who lives in the Magical Bakery, at the end of Candy Tree Lane in Rainbow Village, and every recipe the friends find writes itself back onto his pages in gold. Lost Recipes are tricky, though: the Rainbow Cake comes out beige, the cupcakes keep hiding, the bread won't stop dancing and marshmallows start falling from the sky. Each recipe only comes back when Mia and her friends work out what it is really about, and then do it. Book One holds the first ten stories, each a whole adventure that ends the same night it starts: a problem appears, the crew try a recipe, something goes wrong, and they fix it together. The story carries on into Book Two.
